Laptops, out of all the various electronic gadgets, can be the most quintessential thing if you are a workhorse type of person. What this means is that if you are in a profession where you need to be connected on-the-go then you got to have a Laptop as Desktop Computers are not feasible to be carried around.
Now, there are various professions where the Laptops are needed may be more than smartphones or other gadgets and the top two such professions are Film Making( a.k.a Youtubing) and Blogging. In regards to Film Making, it is utmost important to have a Laptop so that you can edit videos as soon as they are shot so as to share them as early as possible to the subscribers. Same goes for Blogging where you need to write about that beautiful place you saw or that wonderful and innovative smartphone that just came out.
Now, we know that one of the most research-worthy purchases of any gadget is purchasing a Laptop. It is because if you are in the market for buying a Laptop then you are most probably in one of the professions mentioned above. For that, you need to not only have a Laptop but you need to have a powerful Laptop which justifies the price-to-performance ratio as well as gives you the features that are needed.
Frankly speaking, I am also in the market currently for a laptop which justifies the points mentioned above in regards to price, performance and features. Therefore, I recently came across a notebook while doing my research which made me think that all the other notebooks that I saw prior to that were way overpriced ( or maybe this one is way under-priced). The notebook I am talking about is the Asus Vivobook S. The Asus Vivobook S is being sold in India at around Rs. 60,000 in terms of INR. However, you will be amazed to see the features that this notebook packs which are not even available from some other Windows laptops in the price range > Rs. 80,000.
Asus Vivobook S
Now, the first thing that you might think of after looking at the above image of the Asus Vivobook S could be the fact that you seriously need to upgrade your current laptop. Yes, that is right as the Asus Vivobook S has all the things that you could possibly want from a notebook. It has a solid build, gorgeous design, excellent display and it is ultra-slim too. Now, let’s get into more details about what exactly the Asus Vivobook S actually consists of and why should you buy this Laptop.
Asus Vivobook S: Slim and Light-weight
First comes the weight and slimness of any notebook. This might be the deciding factor in buying a Laptop if you are in the market. And yes, the Asus Vivobook S is ultra-slim and light-weight as you might have already seen from the image. If we delve into details, the Asus Vivobook S is just 14.8mm thick and 1.2kg in weight. Now, that’s seriously impressive for a notebook.
Asus Vivobook S: Display
Now that we have talked much about the light-weight-ness of the Asus Vivobook S, let’s talk about the notebook’s display. First of all, the Asus Vivobook S has a full-HD IPS display which is also an anti-glare one so that you need not get disturbed by the sunlight even if you are outdoors. Also, the Asus Vivobook S only has 8.5mm bezels on the sides of the display which means that this notebook has a screen-to-body ratio of 80 percent and Asus calls it NanoEdge Bezel display. Now let’s face it, some of us might not have this high screen-to-body ratio even on the smartphone that we own right now. Interestingly, the Asus Vivobook S packs a 14-inch display in a 13-inch chassis.
Asus Vivobook S: Performance
Now, let’s talk about the major aspect of the Asus Vivobook S: Performance. TL;DR: The Asus Vivobook S is a powerhouse and a beast in terms of performance. Going into the details of the performance aspect, the Asus Vivobook S is powered by the 8th generation Intel Core-i5 processor. Also, the base variant of the Vivobook S is also powered by a 7th generation Intel Core-i3 processor.
Now, we know that processor is one thing in a Laptop but there are other aspects which should be considered too. Next up is the RAM or Random Access Memory which is important for any Laptop. In the Asus Vivobook S, the company has bundled 8GB of RAM for both the variants mentioned above.
Nowadays, one of the deciding factors in buying a Laptop has come down to the storage capacity and the type of storage available. It is known that there are three types of storage: SSD, HDD and Hybrid. Among these, SSD is the fastest storage then comes Hybrid and the slowest storage is the HDD. Now, I am sure that all of us would be currently using an HDD powered laptop as SSD were way too costly and not widely available in Laptops from the past. However, times have changed and we are now getting Laptops powered by SSD.
Same is the case with Asus Vivobook S which comes with a 256GB SSD storage capacity. Note that it is proven that SSD is up to 10x faster than the HDD. This means that not only does the Vivobook S have a better processor and better RAM, it also has a much faster storage drive as well.
Asus Vivobook S: Battery Life
Now comes the most important aspect in selecting a notebook: Battery Life. We have known that battery life on Windows-powered Laptops has been bad to terrible over the years. This is partly due to Windows OS sucking too much battery and also due to OEMs bundling smaller batteries. However, that is not the case with Asus Vivobook S.
Asus claims that the Asus Vivobook S can run on a single charge for up to 8 hours. For a laptop powered by Windows 10, this is seriously impressive. To make the deal even sweeter, the Asus Vivobook S also comes with Fast Charging support. First of all, you do not have to carry the charger with you everywhere you go as it has great battery life. However, even if you need to charge your laptop then Asus Vivobook S charges 60% In 49 mins which means that you can use the Laptop once again after taking a short nap or even place the Laptop on charge during Lunch or Dinner and you are ready to go.
Asus Vivobook S: Fingerprint Scanner
One of the features that set the Asus Vivobook S apart from other notebooks in this price range is the addition of Fingerprint Sensor. Yes, you heard that right. Asus Vivobook S indeed comes with a Fingerprint Sensor that is located at the top-right corner of the trackpad. This means that it is very convenient to use the sensor as we generally tend to place our fingers on the trackpad of a Laptop first while booting the device up. Also, Windows 10 comes with Windows Hello mechanism which means that we can directly access our Laptop by placing a finger on the sensor and the device gets unlocked in just a few seconds.
Asus Vivobook S: Additional Features
In addition to all the features mentioned above, the Asus Vivobook S also has an optional illuminated chicklet keyboard. This means that it is very convenient to use the Laptop even at night time due to keyboard keys being perfectly visible in a dark room. Also, the chicklet keyboard helps in typing over a long period of time conveniently without making much noise.
All in all, it should have been quite clear to you by now about why the Asus Vivobook S is the best laptop in this price range. Asus has pitched the Vivobook S against the Apple MacBook Air 2017 which is priced in the similar price bracket and the Vivobook S beats the MacBook Air hands down. Thus, the performance, battery life and features help everyone (including me) emerge as a true performer. Stay tuned right here as I will be posting a detailed review of the Asus Vivobook S in the coming days. Also, make sure to share your thoughts about the Asus Vivobook S in the comments section below.
